I might be selling my video iPod, and will only have my shuffle to keep me from going insane for a while.
I would love to hear recomendations for alternatives to an iPod.

Yes, I’m a Mac user but I have various versions of Windows and Linux installed via Parallels – not to mention dual-boot with XP and I may be reviving a dedicated PC.

I’m either going to wait for the next iPod release or buy a different MP3/Video player, like – one where I can actually rent my music (yes, Jobs – some within your flock actually want to pay a monthly fee for unlimited music), and maybe just maybe watch my TiVo shows on.

Altho the TiVo part is not a major requirement, I would like to see a player that does play MP3s (MP4s?) and Video (preferably MPG/MOV but I’ll take what I can get – but I really, really don’t want to be forced to only use WMA/WMV).

A big plus would be – allowing me to store the files on the device’s file system and be able to access them from ANY computer without doing any magic.

I would also love to be able to access it via Linux.

Requirements:
- MP3 (MP4?)
- Video (DiVX?)
- decent battery life (2+ hours playing video?)
- no more than $300
- Windows 2000 and/or XP accessible
- Mac OS X accessible

Optional:
- Plays For Sure (rental compatible)
- MP4
- MPG/MOV video
- Linux-accessible
